Augmentation
Augmentations are the biggest scientific advancement of this universe. The ability to modify your body in countless ways, limited only in space and ability to get what you want. Prosthetics, bodily modification, most anything is possible. Hacking with your mind through wires. Attaching weapons to your body. Using the internet through a HUD in your eyes. The list goes on.
Now, of course there are limits, but generally speaking if you take the time to think out through the balancing system and rules, you can create anything (logical ofc) There is no list of weapons you can use with augs. You say the weapon you want and decide on what it should cost, and if it doesn’t add up I or a fellow admin will help you fix it and balance it, rather than deny and make you remake it in a day.
Balancing system:
You have 80 Free to use Gigs. External Hard drives cost 50 gigs for an extra 100, 70 for 150, 80 for 200, and if you go past the 80 limit to 90, a rare and hard to obtain 250 gig EHD.
Small augments cost five gigs. This varies from HUDs, augmented eyes, enhanced senses, replaced hand, foot, and basic melee weapons, like a Knife that can only extend or contract. Et cetara. If you don’t know what something is, ask.
Medium augments cost 10 gigs. Forearm and hand, foot and calf, Nanite factory control(Manually releasing X into bloodstream), advanced Melee weapons (Like a knife that can be turned, swiveled, spun, shot forward, etc.)
Major augments cost 15 gigs. An entire limb, most of the chest and torso area, firearms, etc.
-Omega- Augments: Incredibly rare and unusual augments, some almost myth like. Anything that might fit this category cost’s massive amounts of gigs, depending on the augment. Augment assisted power armor, Mimic robots, Maybe even mechs...
ANYTHING the brain does not know how to do requires a rewrite. The rewrite costs five gigs, plus whatever category the augment fits into. A gun costs 15+5, so 20. Advanced sword 10+5, so fifteen.
The rewrite is important because it ‘teaches’ the brain to do new things. You do not think about moving your arm, you just move your arm. The rewrite makes it so that you dont think about opening up your arm, pushing out a complex firearm, loading ammo, and firing, you just do it.
don’t let your memes be memes
Cost only factors into usability. Whether you get a super skinny or super giant arm, as long as it works like a normal arm and has all the layers it will not cost anything extra. However, if you stop at the bone layer, a rewrite has to fill in the gaps the brain has, and you pay for the size cost. For limbs, this is the same as how much of the limb you are replacing. a bone only hand costs 5+5, a forearm and hand cost 15, a full arm costs 20.
The system is designed to let you decide how something should work, and still be cool to yourself. A bone only layer might not be the strongest, but it’s simplicity might be faster and easier physically and ICly to mount a weapon, or multiple. Just as a multi jointed limb would have it’s own IC advantages and disadvantages.
Finally, as mentioned somewhere else, Don’t be afraid to shun Augments. Tech is advanced enough that Augments aren’t the only way to have power. Exoskeletons, normal firearms, advanced body training, etc. As well as Augment assisted tech, like using a rewrite and a major augment to plug into an external Exoskeleton, to take control. In such a setup responses wouldn’t be as fast as normal augments, but you would only have to think about what to do instead of pressing a button to move your arm. It’s ideas like that that should matter.
